The future is flux.
Perfect Future Shock
Plot Summary
The sci-fi actioner is set 400 years in the future, when disease has wiped out the majority of the earth's population except for one walled, protected city-state, Bregna, ruled by a congress of scientists. The story centers on Aeon Flux(Theron), the top operative in the underground 'Monican' rebellion, led by The Handler(Frances McDormand). When Aeon is sent on a mission to kill a government leader, she uncovers a world of secrets.
Theron Redesigns Skimpy Superheroine Costume
Hollywood star Charlize Theron forced movie bosses to change her costume design for forthcoming movie Aeon Flux - after deciding her character's original outfit was too revealing. When Theron saw the superheroine's skimpy crime-fighting outfit of a bikini, thigh-high boots and shoulder pads, she decided to add trousers to the outfit. The 29-year-old star admits, "When you're playing with aspects of sexuality, certain things have to be hidden. That's what my mother always used to tell me. I wanted to stay as true as possible to the original character, but didn't feel the need to go as far with the costume." The sci-fi movie, based on the comic book adaptation, is due to be released in the autumn.
Babelsberg launches first stage of IPO
COLOGNE, Germany -- Germany's legendary Studio Babelsberg went public on the Frankfurt stock exchange Friday in the first stage of an IPO the studio hopes will raise around €15 million ($19.4 million). Babelsberg shares opened at €1.65 ($2.13) and jumped quickly to €1.80 ($2.33). Friday's placement involved just 11% of the 15 million Babelsberg shares the German group plans to float. The rest will be brought onto the market in a series of additional stock offers. Babelsberg has already started to invest its IPO cash, signing long-term leases for two new buildings that, Babelsberg said, will more than double the company's studio capacity. With the new space, Babelsberg said it was now able to accommodate two major productions at once.James McTeigue's comic book adaptation V for Vendetta is currently shooting at Babelsberg. Recent productions at the Studio include Aeon Flux, Around The World in 80 Days and The Bourne Supremacy.

Berlin beneficiary of major production boom
BERLIN -- The star power at this year's Berlin International Film Festival might be a few watts dimmer than in previous outings, but the German capital is fast becoming a regular stopover for Hollywood's tentpole productions. Flightplan, Aeon Flux, The Bourne Supremacy and Kevin Spacey's Bobby Darin biopic Beyond the Sea are just some of the recent high-profile U.S. features that have shot in Berlin, and the pace of production does not appear to be slowing down. James McTeigue's comic book adaptation V for Vendetta, starring Natalie Portman, is set to begin shooting next month at Studio Babelsberg, and Mission: Impossible III, which prepped in Berlin during the summer before being put on ice, looks likely to return to the city this summer.
Crane feels 'Adrenaline' rush
Second unit director Simon Crane is poised to make his directorial debut with Intermedia's Adrenaline. Penned by Mike Finch, the project is an action tale set in the world of thrill seekers who use their death-defying skills to pull off seemingly impossible heists. Scott Kroopf, president of Intermedia's Motion Picture Group, said: "Simon is one of the best in the business when it comes to the 'no holds barred' action scenes that make up this movie, and Mike Finch has given him a great vehicle for a nonstop roller coaster ride with strong characters and inventive set pieces." Intermedia exec Alex Litvak is overseeing the project along with Kroopf. Outlaw Prods.' Bobby Newmyer and Scott Strauss will produce. The script is undergoing a production rewrite, with the intention to put it on a fast track with cast and prospective domestic partners for a midsummer start. Crane, whose credits include Troy, Terminator 3, Tomb Raider and the upcoming Mr. and Mrs. Smith, is repped by ICM and attorney Peter Nichols of Lichter, Grossman, Nichols & Adler. Finch whose credits include Around the World in 80 Days, Aeon Flux and Wing Commander, is repped by Endeavor.
Casella moves into films with Taang!
Curtis Casella, founder of the long-running indie punk rock label Taang! Records, has founded the independent production firm Taang! Films with producer-actor Franco Columbu and former sports agent, ad man and production executive Wirt Morton. The company's first feature, Night Brings the Fury, is being co-produced by Martha Griffin (Girl Fight, Aeon Flux), Jennifer Kelly and the Taang! partners. Written and directed by Christopher Peroni, the punk-themed thriller will star Michelle Rodriguez (Girl Fight, Resident Evil). Principal photography will start in Prescott, Ariz., early next year. Taang! also is pursuing distribution rights to American Hardcore, an indie documentary about the hardcore punk scene based on Steve Blush's 2001 book.
Theron To Have "No Stunts" Clause
South African beauty Charlize Theron will have a 'no stunts' clause inserted into all of her future film contracts after the debilitating injury she sustained making her latest movie. The Oscar-winning Monster star had to take a month out from filming Aeon Flux after she injured her back shooting stunts for the futuristic action movie. Doctors finally allowed Theron to return to work last week and her heart-throb boyfriend Stuart Townsend has ordered her to use stunt doubles in future. A friend of the Hollywood couple says, "She's learned her lesson."
Renner head of Caro's 'Class'
Jeremy Renner is in negotiations to star in Niki Caro's Class Action opposite Charlize Theron. The Warner Bros. Pictures project is expected to beginning filming next year once Theron completes her starring role in Paramount Pictures/MTV Films' Aeon Flux. No start date has been set for Class Action, though, because Aeon, which is filming in Germany, had to suspend shooting last month when Theron suffered a neck injury during production. Paramount said Aeon is now aiming to resume filming next month. Queried about Theron's condition, a studio spokeswoman said, "She's fine and going back to work next month." The Oscar-winning actress continues to recuperate in Los Angeles, where she had an MRI last week to assess her recovery, sources said, and was later given the go-ahead to return to work.
Theron Misses Toronto Premiere
Oscar winner Charlize Theron was forced to miss the premiere of her new film at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival in Canada on Sunday night, because she was in too much pain to fly. The actress is undergoing physiotherapy in Los Angeles after injuring her back in a stunt on the set of new film Aeon Flux in Berlin, Germany, last month. Theron's boyfriend Stuart Townsend, who also plays her lover in new movie Head In The Clouds, was present at the Toronto Film Festival but refused to talk about his girlfriend's injury.
Townsend Gets Tough with Daredevil Theron
Charlize Theron's longtime boyfriend Stuart Townsend has urged the Oscar winner to slow down on film sets after she almost broke her back in a fall while filming in Berlin, Germany. The Irish actor has revealed his gorgeous girlfriend has been urged to rest up for six weeks after she insisted on doing her own stunts for the movie Aeon Flux, in which she plays an acrobatic superheroine. And he wants her to stop doing the work of her stunt doubles. Speaking on Ap Radio in America on Wednesday, Townsend said, "The slipped disc went in almost to the spinal cord. She's fine, but she could have been in a lot of trouble." Townsend confessed Theron isn't the type of actress to wimp out on set stunts: "She's not that kind of girl. She's like, 'Yeah, I'll do anything.' But I said to her, 'You know the stunt girl has got to start working now. Not you.'"
Charlize Returns to Los Angeles for Recovery
Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron has returned to her Los Angeles home after suffering an injury on the German set of her upcoming movie Aeon Flux. While her injury to her neck, which she sustained on Monday , has not been deemed serious enough to warrant hospitalization, they're still significant enough for production on the movie to be shut down for several weeks while Theron recovers. The Monster beauty, who has been doing her own stunts on the sci-fi thriller, has returned home so she can be seen by her own doctors and to recuperate. Aeon Flux is set centuries in the future at a time when a plague has wiped out most of the population. Theron plays the title character - a sleek, sexy commando who is part of a rebellion against the remaining government.
Charlize Theron Injured on Movie Set
Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron has suffered an injury while shooting stunts for her upcoming movie Aeon Flux in Germany. Filming in Berlin has been halted to allow her to recover, following the Monday mishap. It's not yet known if the injury will require script changes or when the movie will resume production. Theron's publicist Amanda Silverman says she had no information about the cause or severity of the accident, but stresses the 29-year-old Monster beauty wasn't hospitalized. Silverman says, "She did sustain an injury on the set. It's a very physically demanding role." Aeon Flux is set centuries in the future at a time when a plague has wiped out most of the population. Theron plays the title character - a sleek, sexy commando who is part of a rebellion against the remaining government.
Theron injury puts prod'n in 'Flux'
An injury Charlize Theron suffered on the set of Paramount Pictures/MTV Films' Aeon Flux has forced production to shut down on the sci-fi actioner for an indefinite number of weeks. The delay also could have a domino effect on Theron's next project, Warner Bros. Pictures' Class Action, which is scheduled to start filming early next year. Theron had been working in Berlin, where production on Flux began Aug. 16. The injury happened while Theron was performing stunts in wire-hanging action, according to unit publicist Jeanmarie Carrasco, quoted in an Associated Press report. Asked for further detail, Carrasco only would say: "She sustained an injury, and we are closing down for a few weeks so that she can be 100% when she returns. She wasn't hospitalized, but I can't comment on anything specific about her injuries." Carrasco said no cameras were rolling at the time of the incident.

'Alpha,' 'Flux' on Warner slate
Amelia Warner is starring in the Trudie Styler-produced Alpha Male for helmer Dan Wilde opposite Danny Huston, Jennifer Ehle and Styler. She'll follow that up with a role as the sister of Charlize Theron's character in Paramount Pictures' Aeon Flux for helmer Karyn Kusama and producer Gale Ann Hurd. Warner is in front of cameras on Alpha Male in London, playing the daughter in a dysfunctional family who is trying to come to terms with her life following the death of her father. Styler is producing through her Xingu Films production outfit along with Morvern Callar producer Robyn Slovo.
Director Carnahan off Par's 'Mission' sequel
Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible 3 has a new mission: finding a replacement director. Joe Carnahan has dropped out of the director's seat. Citing creative differences, Paramount Pictures has confirmed the move. According to Rob Friedman, vice chairman of the Paramount Pictures Motion Picture Group, the film remains scheduled to begin shooting as planned next month at Berlin's Babelsberg Studios. Babelsberg has had its own share of problems, with a recent takeover prompting a letter of protest sent to German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder from a committee representing the studios' 220 full-time employees. Committee chairman Jan-Peter Schmarje said that big-budget productions planned for the studio, including Aeon Flux and M-I:3, will go ahead as planned.
McDormand on 'Class' docket
Frances McDormand and Charlize Theron can't get enough of each other. McDormand is in negotiations to join Theron in the Warner Bros. Pictures drama Class Action. The Oscar winners are currently teamed up on Aeon Flux for MTV/Paramount Pictures. Written by Michael Seitzman, Class Action is a fictionalized account of the first successful sexual harassment prosecution in the United States, Jensen v. Eveleth Mines. Whale Rider helmer Niki Caro is on board to direct. Pending a deal, McDormand would play the role of Glory, a tough but tender iron miner who befriends and mentors Theron's character, Josie, a harassed mine worker who becomes the key plaintiff in the case. Industry Entertainment's Nick Wechsler is producing, with Nana Greenwald, Helen Bartlett and Doug Claybourne serving as executive producers. Courtenay Valenti is overseeing for the studio. McDormand's recent credits include Catwoman, City by the Sea and Something's Gotta Give. She is repped by Endeavor and Frank Frattaroli at Artists Independent Network.

'Flux' effects find Paris home
Visual effects boutique Buf Compagnie is in exclusive talks to produce the cityscapes and futurist environments for Paramount Pictures' live-action adaptation of the MTV animated series Aeon Flux. The Paris-based digital effects house has agreed to create the previsualizations and a few hundred computer-generated shots in addition to supervising the visual effects on the high-flying sci-fi actioner starring Charlize Theron and Frances McDormand. The movie centers on an acrobatic assassin (Theron) and her handler (McDormand) involved in an underground rebellion in a city of the future. It is to be produced by MTV Films with Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla Prods. in association with Lakeshore Entertainment.
